My Book Review of Guion The Lion

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
A lovely book of imagination and friendship
This was a sweet book. It shows how we don’t always see things the same way and how our attitudes can taint our views, as well. It opens discussions not only for this topic with our kids, but to talk about how we communicate our thoughts, too. For example, I kept wondering if Guion would have approached Rae differently, if she would have seen his vision sooner?
The quote used: “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change ” by Dr. Wayne Dyer was spot on. It was well illustrated with Rae having to squint her eyes and tilt her head to see what the others did. I think that will resonate well.
I think this wonderful book is ideal for pre-school and early elementary. I agree with the posted target age of 3-7, depending on their attention span. However, I think the younger kids will need more parental involvement to fully grasp the mature concept. Still, I can see many fun conversations and memories coming from multiple reads.
