The Shadow Man by Harper CarrMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
Well-paced Paranormal Mystery
I was honored to receive an ARC from this author. I have read books by her under another pen name and loved them. Her style is like a painting in words and compelling.
What I enjoyed about this book was the realism of the characters against the paranormal context. The detailed knowledge of the author for the various subject matters lent a foundation of truth that sparked credibility into the ethereal. The blending of worlds was masterful and added to the painted landscape of an isolated landscape. I felt it was beautifully done.
There were things I didn’t like, but they were character choices and nothing I can divulge without spoilers. I will say that Seraph is horrible and though I don’t believe in spanking children, she gives me pause to reconsider that stance. Mercy is someone I want to have compassion for because I can understand her situation, but I honestly lack empathy. It is Caleb and Gracelyn that my heart goes out to.
I recommend this book. It is full of twists and mysteries. The story is appropriate for young adult and beyond. It has something for romance readers, paranormal ghostie fans, historical fiction buffs, and just those who love a good who-done-it! This was a fun and exciting read that I hope is the start to a series!
