#OpinionsAreLikeAssholes (everybody has one) – Legislative Bills and the BBB

This is an opinion piece written by J.M. Northup about current events. Additional resources are shared along with book recommendations.

The BBB is a reconciliation bill. How’s that differ from a budget resolution bill or rescission bill?

With the One Big Beautiful Bill (BBB) being in the news, many are arguing about what should be included. The biggest debate over whether or not this bill is truly big enough relates to the amount of budgetary cuts that are included. The debate on how beautiful it is seems to depend on your political agenda, such as SALT inclusions or Medicare/Medcaid reform. For me, understanding what this bill is and is NOT helps clarify its importance, not to mention, its validity.

The BBB is a Reconciliation Bill. Simply put, this is an expedited legislative process, established by the Congressional Budget Act of 1974, which allows Congress to pass certain tax, spending, and debt limit changes with a simple majority in the Senate. However, its scope is limited by the Byrd Rule. The purpose of this sort of bill is to push budget-related legislation through that mainly adjusts spending, revenue, and the debt limit for our country. IT WOULD NOT INCLUDE MOST OF THE DOGE CUTS (which are appropriate for rescission bills).

I have watched and read a lot about this. I believe in being informed and going to the source, not taking hearsay as truth. However, not everyone has the time I do. That being said, Stephen Miller is a trusted, educated source who has articulated the BBB better than anyone else. I hope you will watch this video with Charlie Kirk:

The BBB is the crucial first step towards balancing our budget and fixing our deficit because it will buy us time while initiating essential change. It is a necessary step toward saving our country $1.5T in federal spending CUTS despite some built-in costs. The additional costs will be spread over the next 10 years and will themselves offer net decreases in spending. For example, increasing our border security and cutting benefits to undocumented/illegals saves BILLIONS of dollars in resources.

A Budget Resolution bill along with Rescission bills are already at play. This is because the Budget Resolution bill basically sets the framework for our overall federal budget while Rescission bills drive the removal of and/or cutting unobligated funding for programs that are no longer needed or to reduce spending (THIS IS WHERE THE DOGE CUTS WILL COME).

If we pass the BBB, we will be able to do stave off a large tax increase for the nation across the board (doesn’t matter is it is 7.5% or 68% – both suck ass). It would implement many campaign promises while initiating many spending cuts. Best of all, it would give Congress time to go line by line through our budget to make rescission bills to cut even more.

Like Trump or hate him, he IS our president, and he is someone who loves our country. Democrat, Republican, or Otherwise, ALL are represented in Congress, and THEY make up our Legislative branch who drives all these bills. Regardless of who, how, or what a bill starts as, they are all shaped by the representatives we, as a PEOPLE, ELECT in to represent ALL of us. Let’s hope we voted wisely, and we can see blessings upon our big, beautiful nation. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
