My Book Review of Whiskers the Cat: Five Fun Short Stories

schoolWhiskers the Cat: Five Fun Short Stories by Uncle Amon
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Not What I Expected

Though cute tales, they feel like rough drafts. The narratives were “telling” without “showing.” That made the stories lackluster.

I loved Whiskers, the community, and the positivity. There was magic and joy permeating the text. However, I wouldn’t call it a children’s books. Perhaps middle grade, but the vernacular is more in line with young adult literature.

I would suggest deciding for yourself about this book. It’s a fast, cute read but superficial in my approximation. It felt like it lacked direction with an uncertain audience.

  1. I randomly found this series on Amazon and have been reading them to my 6 year old niece. They do read like drafts, but they are perfect for a quick bedtime story that gets her giggling. I have found a couple of errors and one character changes from a duck to an otter about 6-7 books into the series.

But over all, my niece loves them and asks for them every night before bed.
