The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric CarleMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
Easy to miss the message
I liked the title, especially since my youngest granddaughter has a fascination with ladybugs. Also, I like the author so picked up the book. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.
This story has a message, but it’s easy to miss. It feels sad that the grumpy ladybug is so stuck on wanting to fight everyone, and she goes around upsetting others. That’s not what I want to encourage in kids, even though the lesson is about the animals she meets and how her silly anger run was fruitless.
I think this book is for older kids because of the convoluted moral. It is certainly a story that needs to be discussed with adults. It’s not bad, but it needs guidance.
