Moth: An Evolution Story by Isabel ThomasMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Educational Middle Grade
This is a great book for mature middle grade readers. I could see it as a book for a science (or other academic) report. It does a great job illustration natural selection, adaption, and how environmental changes affect species.
I began reading it to my granddaughter, who is 7. She quickly lost interest, so it enforced my believe that is more for older readers. I think, in large part, because of the dark, drab coloring of the book. That’s immediately a turn off to kids, who seek vibrant colors.
I do think it’s a good story and well written. It’s educational and has great value. It’s just not a book you’d gift unless the child’s interests are darker or in natural science.
