My Book Review of Finding Nemo: Nemo and the Surprise Party

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Cute Tale
This was a fun book with the expected Disney illustrations. It is something children will enjoy and migrate to fondly as it is filled with well-known and loved characters.
What I liked was that the characters all worked together. The parents let the kids plan things and figure out how to work as a team for the benefit of their friend. The cooperation between them all and the thought they put into everything was really charming.
What I didn’t like was how Dory couldn’t get Nemo’s name straight. That is consistent with the character as we know her from the movies, and it was off-putting to me. I get the author wanted to highlight her memory issues, but there was a better way to do it. Kids will want the consistency of behaviors in the characters they know, which this was not.
Overall, this is a cute tale. It teaches kids to work together, talk to their parents, include everyone, and to be patient with people with memory issues. Those are all good things!
