It’s called Wolf at the Door. It should really be called Worst Thanksgiving Ever.
What genre is it?
Oh, it’s a horror show. Have you met my mother?
When and where is your tale set?
Thanksgiving, in good old Prince George, British Columbia. Centre of the universe. PG. Oh, and Thanksgiving in Canada is in October – so this all happened weeks before Halloween.
Who are you?
What is your name?
Charlotte Deerborn Sr. That means I’m the first, my daughter, Charlotte Deerborn Junior, would be the second. Maybe we should put a ‘II’ after her name.
Are you a fictional or historical character?
Fictional, I guess. Doesn’t feel that way.
What’s your role in the story – are you the protagonist or a supporting character?
Look, it’s my house, my rules, my bloody dinner. So, I guess you could say it all happened because of me (that’s what my mom would say, god rest her black little heart), but I also solved everything too. So, there’s that.
Are you a human, animal, alien, robot, or something completely different?
Human, I think … we’ll see the next time the full moon comes around. Might not go well for folks here in PG.
Do you consider yourself to be good, bad, or indifferent? Would others agree with this assessment – why, or why not?
Good. Obviously. I’m doing my best. Doug, my husband, he’s good too. His brother Dan, well, that’s a whole other kettle of fish. They should’ve kept him locked up.
What do we need to know about you?
What is your personal goal? I mean, what do you ultimately want?
Honestly, a nice family gathering where everyone gets along and no one, and I mean no one, does anything to rock the boat. Is that too much to ask?
What is standing in your way? What conflict(s) do you face?
Apparently, everyone in my family. Well, extended family. My mother, for one. Doug’s brother Dan. Mike and Marleen and their issues. Even Charlotte Jr. is starting to get on my nerves. And, well, I guess there are the werewolves too…
Why is this goal important to you? What’s your motivation?
I don’t want to get all Freudian here, but I guess it matters so that I can prove I’m a good wife and mother. Why does that matter? Honestly, I don’t know. But it’s there in my head as much a part of me as breathing or brushing my teeth.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be, and why?
I guess it would be that I don’t care so much what mom thinks.
How do I get a copy of your book?
Is it available now, or when can we expect to see it released?
The story’s out now. The police have halted their investigation so we could tell people what really happened. We hired some local numbnuts to type it up for us.
