My Book Review of Whiskers Abroad: Ashi and Audrey’s Adventures in Japan

WhiskersWhiskers Abroad: Ashi and Audrey’s Adventures in Japan by Carrie Carter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Adorable Travel Memoir

Right off the bat, I was impressed by the design of this book. The choices for layout and format were brilliant. They added to the adventure of the tale, especially with how the author and illustrator used icons to depict which character was writing – Audrey or Ashi.

The details about Japan was subtle, though present. I enjoyed the way aspects of the culture were woven into the story so naturally, how the author added websites and words or phrases for translation, and gave unique perspective of the same event from both human and feline views. It made the tale more engaging while fulfilling its purpose as a travel guide. It was fun and entertaining.

There wasn’t much I disliked. I thought there was a lot of discussion about food, but if we are honest, that is a huge part of travel. The approach to the cuisine from each character was humorous and unique. This was certainly unlike any other travel book I’ve encountered!

I would recommend this book. It is colorful, fun, and informational. I’m looking forward to the future adventures of Audrey & Ashi!
