#NorthupNews – How Do You Like Them Apples?

I had a feature, called Julie’s Jewels, on Norns Triad Publications’ blog. I used it to share tidbits about my life, which I tied into book suggestions (because you know I love books). I thought it might be fun to do something similar here. Hence, the birth of this series, #NorthupNews.

The cool thing is that my partners, Sahara Foley and Karen J. Mossman, have similar features on their blogs. It is a way for us to connect with our readers. Hopefully, it is as interesting to you as it is for us.

I originally wrote and published this article on October 29, 2024.

I love autumn and the harvest. Pumpkin patches, corn stalks, cinnamon, and apple cider. Apples… Hmmm!

I love apples, but when you have digestive issues, they don’t make it easy to enjoy them. Here is some information for people dealing with these issues:

Apples are high in FODMAPs, a group of carbohydrates that can be difficult to digest and trigger digestive issues. However, a quarter cup of green apple or pink lady is considered a low FODMAP serving.

Here’s some more information about apples and FODMAPs:

IBS: Apples can trigger diarrhea and intensify IBS symptoms. However, apples and pears can be helpful for people with IBS-C, a type of IBS where constipation is the main symptom.

FODMAP content: Apples contain fructose and sorbitol, which are both FODMAPs. A medium or two small apples (200g) are high in both fructose and sorbitol.

Cooking: Cooking apples can make them easier to digest and reduce gas.

Tolerance: Some people can only tolerate a 25g serving of apples.

AI Overview

Maybe that isn’t the best conversation with food. Still, I am trying to be helpful. LOL

Dusty and I just went shopping. We bought apples, but we could not be more different from one another. I opted for tart (which are my preferred type) while he went for a sweeter species. I got a good chuckle when my husband took a bite of my pink lady (too tart for him); he chose honey crisp. I got granny smith, as well, though we aren’t baking or anything – just munching on them for snacks.

What do you like to eat, and why?
