My First Taste Of A Dark Comic
My brother had comics that I perused as a child, but nothing like this graphic novel. This was dark and dangerous in ways I’d not experienced in this medium. It was new and modern.
What I liked was the feelings the artist conveyed. A lot was said without saying it. The layout was was well done and it was easy for me to follow the events.
What I disliked was the way Papa talked. I think it’s to do with the era the character might be from (I’m assuming since there’s too much left to learn about the characters and plot remaining – this is clearly a tantalizing set up for the series). It just felt too much like Robin (from Batman) and the elements of genre that turned me off – Zoom! Pow! Still, there was a 70’s feel to the tempo, so maybe I’m wrong and it’s being used to set the time?
As with most comics, it ended too soon, so I’m anxious to get into the next in the series. I want to discover the secrets yet to unfold in story.
