Happy Armed Forced Day!

Celebrating Unity

ARMED FORCES DAY – Third Saturday in May
Armed Forces Day was created to have a combined celebration of all the military branches.  It was intended to replace the individual Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corp holidays.  It was part of an initiative to create a unified force, which influenced them to become the Department of Defense under the National Military Establishment Act of 1947.
This united forces recognition was announced by Louis Johnson (U.S. Secretary of  Defense) on August 31, 1949 and was first celebrated on May 20, 1950.  It was made an official holiday in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy.
